In a recent interview, new Fiat India MD Paolo Castagna candidly admits to having a daunting task ahead of him as he attempts to turn around the fortunes of the beleagured carmaker in this country. The part I liked best is his frank acceptance of the fact that where they've fallen short is in understanding what exactly the customer needs and delivering on that immediately...and everytime. The quality of their cars was never a debate; spares, he says, are always just a couple of days away; new launch tests have returned positive results - the issue however, as he owns up, has been one of focus.
I also liked his quietly confident reply to a question on how he felt the Swift and Getz were making waves in a segment that the Palio almost created:

I M Lakshmi Tulasi purchased Fiat Palio 1.9 ELX from Hamsa Agencies, Vishakapatnam through a Sub Dealer In the name of Popular Automobiles, Kakinada, East Godavari District on 20-06-2003.
Upto 11/2 year we enjoyed the car but after that we are facing a lot of troubles mainly engine side. At first the Fuel Injecting Pump was damaged and the same was replaced with a new one at no cost by the company, after that Power steering belt was spoiled this belt we changed 4 times in a month. And also the tensioner related to the same belt was also changed with a new one. All this does’nt make our vehicle to move on roads. Now the car is in service station.
Because of this regular trouble by the vehicle we are suffering a lot and we are not able to do our daily activities regularly and that is damaging our business.
After facing a lot of troubles and dissatisfaction we are here to request you to rectify our problems by sending a senior most mechanic to our area. Or else please exchange our old car with a new one.
If you are not ready to do any of these we may be forced to reach the consumer forum for proper justice.
