Before I get to this post, I somehow feel obliged to inform you that, in my opinion (and meaning no ill will whatsoever), the WagonR and the Santro Xing are two of the ugliest cars I have ever laid eyes on.
Well, now that that's out of the way, the truth remains that both the above mentioned cars have carved pretty solid reputations for themselves as roomy, dependable, fuel-efficient and low maintenance 'first car' options, especially for those willing to cut corners on aesthetics. In fact, the cars have found themselves frequently pitted against one another in various auto-magazine 'tales of the tape'.
Little surprise then, that when Hyundai announced a festive price cut on the Xing for a very limited period, Maruti wasn't far behind in serving up freebies worth Rs. 27000 on the WagonR.
First up Indin, thanks for the comment.
The older comparo that I link to in the post above was done by BS Motoring in March of 2000. I came across this link around the time that I made the above post.
The newer one that I refer to in my post of November 17 is from Autocar and done in August of 2005.
Clearly, 2 different links :). I hope this clarifies things.
